Pressure Tanks

A pressure/bladder tank stores well water in a pressurized environment. When you turn on your faucet, the pressure in the tank pushes the water out. When the water level in the tank drops this reduces the pressure in the tank and activates the pressure switch which turns the pump on to fill the tank. The function of the pressure tank makes it one of the most important components in your well system. Without a full air charge your pump can turn on when it doesn’t need to and can turn on too often. This is called short cycling and can damage your pump, resulting in costly repairs. We recommend you have the air pressure in your tank checked annually.
